Preeclampsia is a dangerous disease. It generally occurs during pregnancy and affects both the mother and the child. One of the complications that it develops in the mothers is HELLP syndrome. It is a fatal complication and is dangerous to both the mother and the child.
HELLP is a type of hemolysis. It causes the destruction of the red blood cells from the body. Along with the red blood cell, also, the platelets are destroyed and the plate count of the body starts diminishing. It also induces increase in the secretion of enzymes by liver. All this can cause serious effects on the body.
HELLP syndrome is fatal to both mother and child. One of the major effects it has is the placental abruption. In this, the placenta is separated from the uterus. This causes bleeding and shock to the mother. In some extreme cases, this may lead to the death of the infant.
The frequency of women developing the HELLP syndrome is quite high i.e. up to 12% among the patients suffering from preeclampsia. Usually it does not show any external symptoms. Therefore, it is very important that patients of preeclampsia be diagnosed for it.
In order to avoid its serious effects it is important to detect HELLP syndrome as early as possible and then accordingly do proper medication.
