Foods that contain Uric Acid

Uric acid is a by product of the breakdown of food in the digestive system. This is a highly toxic substance which causes malice in the body when ingested in large quantities. Studies suggest that diseases like gout can not only be aggravated, but also developed due to uric acid in the body.
However, with a little change in the eating habits and lifestyle, significant improvement can be seen in the diseases caused due to high levels of uric acid.

Gout is common in men, especially those who are older, and can be very painful. This disease is caused due to high levels of urea in the blood. Uric acid, though a waste product, can get accumulated in the blood if we eat food high in uric acid content. Uric acid is found in many foods and alcohols. These foods and drinks should be avoided.

What causes High Uric Acid

Uric acid is obtained as a by product of digestion of purines. These are compounds that, when metabolized, give out uric acid. Most of the animal products have quantities of purines in them. This is especially true for red meats and therefore it is advised that the red meats should be eaten as sparingly as possible. White meats do contain some quantities of purines too; however, these are quite small. Foods that contain yeast are high in uric acid and should be excluded from the diet. Breads, alcohols and other fermented products are some of the food items that should be consumed with caution.

A normal human body eliminates most of the uric acid from the body. There are however cases in which the body begins to accumulate the uric acid which forms into crystals and harms the body. Even this might not harm some people, but there are others who are sensitive to the accumulated uric acid and therefore develop gout.

If uric acid begins to build up in the body, there are natural methods to reduce it. Juice of black cherry, though bitter, can help relieve the symptoms of this disease. However, to eliminate accumulated uric acid from the body, this juice has to be consumed in large quantities.

Other alternative remedies for gout consist of the extract of the seed of celery. Other remedies that have an anti inflammatory effect are also popular. The diet should also contain folic acid which helps in controlling inflammation as well as reducing the levels of uric acid in the blood.
