Causes and Symptoms of Food Poisoning

Food poisoning is a condition that can affect just about anyone. This condition can cause severe discomfort and uneasiness and additionally it may range from being a mild to a severe attack. One of the major causes of this condition is the consumption of contaminated food or water. Some of the common symptoms that are associated with this condition include; vomiting, nausea, stomach cramps, stomach pains, headaches, diarrhea, fatigue and weakness. In some rare cases, food poisoning may prove to be fatal, if caused by E. coli, Salmonella or botulism. As most of the signs linked with this condition are generally akin to those that may be caused by many other illnesses, people aren’t always sure if they have been food poisoned or not. Always bear in mind that that the symptoms usually begin to surface four to forty eight hours after one has ingested the contaminated food or water. Additionally, anyone else that has consumed the contaminated food item will display the same symptoms too.

Simple Home Remedies for Food Poisoning

A mild case of food poisoning can be treated by following a few simple home remedies; however, for more severe attacks, it is of utmost importance that one seeks medical aid. Take a lot of rest and do not over exert yourself. Drinking plenty of water is essential, as this will help in restoring body fluids that have been lost by way of diarrhea. In fact, a dinking a solution prepared by mixing a teaspoon of sugar with a glass of water and a dash of salt, will be an ideal way of treating any kind of dehydration. Papaya is considered to be beneficial for treating this condition. Grate a small raw papaya and add the shreds to 2 glasses of water. Boil the two for a few minutes on a low fire, for about 20 minutes. Once the decoction has been allowed to cool, strain it into a glass. This liquid should be had 2-3 times a day till the symptoms reduce.

Herbal teas that have been prepared from blackberry, chamomile, raspberry or mint are also effective for curing this condition. Powder a teaspoon each of fenugreek and cumin seeds. This should then be added to a glass of water. This mixture should be fed to the patient 2-3 times a day. Mix together 2 tablespoons each of lemon and ginger extract with a dash of black pepper powder. This should be had by the patient 2-3 times a day to reduce nausea and vomiting.
