Excessive Sweating Causes

Excessive sweating can be an embarrassing and an irritating occurrence, but don’t be disheartened; you are not alone. Did you know that almost two per cent of the total population of the world suffers from excessive sweating? So this phenomenon is actually far more common than it seems. In fact there is actually a medical term for excessive sweating— hyperhidrosis. So what exactly causes excessive sweating? Let us find out.

Causes of Excessive Sweating

Our sweat performs two main functions. Firstly, it helps to keep the body cool. This is why people sweat more in hotter climates. The second function that sweat performs is that it helps to release toxins from the body. Over centuries of evolution, human beings who have settled in the hotter parts of the world have naturally developed a tendency to sweat more so that their body can be kept cool more efficiently. So people who live in the tropics will tend to sweat more than people who live in colder regions.

Hyperhidrosis is a condition that is said to occur when a person sweats even more than is required in order to keep his (or her) body cool. This excessive sweating may occur all over the body, or it may be restricted to the pals, armpits, and feet. The most common cause for excessive sweating is genetic. If any of your parents had the tendency to sweat excessively, chances are that you will have a tendency to do s as well. However, excessive sweating can also be caused by a number of conditions including thyroid or pituitary gland disorders, tumors, gout, diabetes, menopause, mercury poisoning and some drugs. Obesity is another condition that can contribute to excessive sweating. This is because when your body is overweight, it tends to heat up faster, and more sweat is required to cool it down.

Natural Remedies for Excessive Sweating

If you are suffering from excessive sweating, you should consult your doctor in order to determine whether it is a symptom of a more serious underlying condition. However, if that is not the case, there are a number of home remedies that you can use to control and cure excessive sweating.

• Drinking a cup of tomato juice every day is a good way to minimize excessive sweat. After drinking the juice for one week, switch to drinking it every other day, and then finally drink it only when needed.

• Excessive sweating is also associated with strong body odor. To eliminate strong body odor, rub some talc on your body after a bath, especially on your underarms.

• Deodorants and perfumes also help to minimize the smell of sweat. If you find that regular deodorants aren’t effective, slice a potato and before applying the deodorant, rub the potato on your armpits.
