Endometriosis is a medical condition in which there is abnormal growth beyond uterus of endometrium. In this condition, endometrium grows outside the uterus or in some areas of your body.

Symptoms include recurring pain is a very common symptom of endometriosis. Generally the recurring pain is in lower back, menstrual pain, pelvis and abdomen.
Unfortunately pain of endometriosis can be so severe that it has a significant impact on your life. The pain may be felt during ovulation, during or after menstruation, after or during sexual course, when passing urine, in the bowels during menstruation.
Other symptoms of endometriosis include constipation or diarrhea, abdominal bloating, irregular or heavy bleeding and fatigue. Other symptom that is associated with this problem is infertility

There are no simple tests to diagnose endometriosis. The most reliable way to diagnose endometriosis is laparoscopy. After performing laparoscopy and biopsy of the infected tissue endometriosis can be detected. However this procedure can be invasive and expensive. If the doctor is not an experienced surgeon then he or she may be unable to recognize the disease. This may result in a wrong diagnosis.

There are other tests that gynecologists may perform to detect endometriosis. These include, MRI scans, ultrasound and other gynecological examinations.
Unfortunately there are no non invasive diagnostic methods for endometriosis. This makes clinicians and women who are suffering from this disease even more frustrating.

A treatment that fully cures endometriosis is yet to be developed. Depending on the woman’s age and symptoms, treatment is given.
Pain killers are given to patients. Painkillers may be simple analgesics or compound analgesics. Hormone treatments attempt to affect oestrogen production which gives the patients some relief from the symptoms. Hormone therapy includes progestins and birth control pills etc. Laparoscopic surgery is another option that is used in the treatment of endometriosis.
