A ear infection can take place at three levels:-

  1. Otitis externa or Outer ear infection – The ear canal, which leads from the outer opening towards the inner ear drum gets infected. This could be caused by a fungal, viral or bacterial infection, allergies or trauma.
  2. Otitis media or Middle ear infection – This is usually seen during sore throats, cold, etc. when the area behind the eardrum that consists of a small cavity of air gets filled up with fluids.

It is the main sensory organ due to which we hear properly and our body balance is also maintained. Due to the inner ear infection, a person may experience dizziness or nausea and other similar symptoms.
