Arthritis is a disease in which inflammation occurs due to some reason in the joints and because of this the patient experiences the problems like pain in that joint and in some cases permanent damage to that joint or its parts. There are several types of arthritis. These classifications are based on the reasons because of which arthritis arises.
There are three main types of arthritis. They are osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and septic arthritis
The osteoarthritis arises due to the loss of cartilage or the synovial fluid from the joint. This can occur because of the deficiency of the essential nutrients to the joints, or physical damage to the joints, infection in the region of joints, age, etc.
On the other hand, the rheumatoid arthritis arises due to autoimmune, in which the immune system of the body itself attacks the joints. There are several reasons because of which this can occur. They are heredity, infection in the joint, etc.
One more of the types of arthritis are the septic arthritis. This occurs due to some infection in the region of the joint which itself damages the cartilage or the synovial fluid.
Gout also is considered as one of the types of arthritis. This occurs due to the deposition of the uric acid crystals or its salts in the joints. The deposition occurs in the cartilages and the synovial cavity in the joints.
All of them have more or less similar initial external symptoms as; all of them cause inflammation in the joints. However, there some differences as well, in the symptoms.
For example, rheumatoid arthritis has effects on the other parts of the body as well while the other types of arthritis do not. The pain in rheumatoid arthritis has a waxing and waning period for intensity.
Moreover, the rheumatoid arthritis leads to the deterioration of the bones and cartilages in the affected joints and therefore the part in which the joint is present appears to be deformed.
In the gout arthritis usually the other parts of the joints as nerves, muscles, ligaments etc are not usually affected. While in the rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, these parts of the joints also are affected and therefore the patient may feel pain in them as well. Moreover, in the gout arthritis the pain is typically like a sudden and severe burning sensation. Redness of the skin above the joint also is peculiarity of gout arthritis.
