Amenorrhea Diet Treatment:
Amenorrhea is a condition in which there is an absence of menstrual periods. Amenorrhea can either be primary or secondary. Primary amenorrhea is when menstruation has never taken place and secondary amenorrhea is when menstruation has stopped after being regular for some time. If a female has reached the age of 16 years without menstruation having taken place, then it is likely that there could be a hormonal imbalance. This is especially true if there are other signs such as lack of development of pubic hair and breasts. Menstruation can also take place for years, and then suddenly stop for some months. This could be either due to pregnancy, a sudden loss of weight, strenuous exercise, stress and obesity. If the intake of birth control pills is stopped, then there could be a stop in menstruation. Breastfeeding and the onset of menopause could also be factors.
Other serious factors could be disorders or tumor formation of the pituitary gland. Another condition could be postpartum pituitary necrosis in which the pituitary gland fails partially or completely during delivery. If there is a cessation in menstruation that goes beyond two weeks, then it is advisable to consult a doctor to test for pregnancy. If pregnancy has been ruled out, then other underlying factors can be examined.
Ginger tea is beneficial in treating amenorrhea and drinking about three cups of ginger tea daily will help to trigger the onset of the menstrual cycle. Beet juice also helps to regulate menstruation. Fresh beet may also be consumed. Another natural remedy for amenorrhea is blue cohosh which helps to promote contractions and the onset of menstruation. Mother wort is also another herb that stimulates menstrual flow. For normal menstrual cycles, it is also important to maintain a healthy body weight. Sudden changes in body weight are a common factor that results in amenorrhea. Regular exercise also helps to maintain normal periods. Since stress is also a cause of amenorrhea, relaxation and meditation may also help. Turmeric is another natural product that is useful in the treatment of secondary amenorrhea. Turmeric can be added to milk and consumed daily. A drink of buttermilk to which asafetida has been added also works well. Celery seeds contain a substance called butylidene-phthalide which helps to stimulate menstruation. Other foods that are effective in amenorrhea cases are bitter gourd, drumsticks, cucumber and ginger. Fenugreek and sesame seeds also serve to treat amenorrhea.
