Personality Disorder Diagnosis
The term personality disorder is given to a kind of mental illness wherein you have certain personality traits that translate into fixed behavior patterns. These patterns may be perceived as dysfunctional by the people around the person who is suffering from these disorders. That is to say, they may not be perceived as completely normal behavior by others. Generally, people who suffer from personality disorders are extremely single minded and rigid in their behaviors. They do not particularly try to modify their behavior patterns to suit the people or the situations around them. This makes it somewhat difficult for them to function normally in everyday situations at school, at work, or generally outside of their comfort zone. They may also find it difficult to adapt to their immediate family and may find themselves to be the odd person out, as it were, in any situation at home as well. It is also possible that a person with a personality disorder may not realize that they are suffering from this problem, and instead blame others for being difficult and impossible. To the patients themselves, their own behavior may just be completely normal. There are several types of personality disorders and a lot of hem can be clustered or bunched into sub types. These groupings would generally be based upon the behavioral category each problem falls under.
Symptoms of Personality Disorder
Some of the commonest kinds of symptoms of a personality disorder would normally be things like mood swings, unreasonable rage, difficulty in maintaining relationships, general suspicious nature, lack of control over feelings and actions, and almost always, a certain type of substance abuse is involved. There may also be a vast variety of causes for these problems and they may range from genetics to an environmental impact of some sort. In either case, you can be assured that a certain amount of counseling and psychotherapy would always be required to take care of these disorders and this would have to be administered under controlled conditions. In any case, pinpointing the precise problem would have to be the work of a professional, and it cannot be undertaken by yourself. Also, you must not try to use self help methods to control your disorder. It may just so happen that these may backfire on you really badly and may further compound your state as opposed to helping you out. Please remember that personality disorders are a real medical problem and need to be dealt with by medical professionals.
