What is Cystic Acne?

Acne is a very common skin condition that affects every one at some point in their lives. Severe acne often tends to be a cause for concern, as it can greatly influence a persons self confidence and self esteem. Acne is basically caused due to hormonal activity, which leads the sebaceous glands to secrete and excess amount of oil. The excess oil that is being secreted begins to build up within the pores. Gradually dirt, dust particles and bacteria also begin to build up within the pores and ultimately the pores get blocked. This then results in an outbreak. This condition is most commonly seen on the face, back, hands and chest, primarily wherever the sebaceous glands are located. Cystic acne can be described as a more severe or harsh form of acne, which is characterized by the appearance of painful, pus filled, swollen boils on the surface of one’s skin. This form of acne can cause severe scarring, which at times may be impossible to get rid of.

Home Remedies for Cystic Acne

This form of acne is also caused by clogged or blocked pores. Cystic acne, unlike ordinary acne, affects deeper skin tissues. Thus, as the infection is more deep rooted, these painful boils generally take a longer time to heal. Here a few home remedies that can help in treating this condition. Baking soda is considered to be an effective remedy for this condition. Mix together half a teaspoon of baking soda and one tablespoon of water, so as to form a thick paste. This mixture should then be applied on to the affected area twice a day on a regular basis. Leave the application on for about 10-15 minutes, after which rinse it off with cold water. Tea tree oil is also beneficial when it comes to treating cystic acne. Dab a clean cotton ball in two to three drops of this oil and then lightly dab it onto the concerned. Once the application has stayed on the skin for 15 minutes, rinse it off with some cold water.

Rub an ice cube all over the acne spots 2-3 times a day; this will help in reducing the swelling. Individuals suffering from this condition need to incorporate plenty of fruits and vegetables into their daily diet. In addition, a substantial intake of water is also essential. This will help in getting rid of unwanted toxins from the body, while also keeping the body well hydrated.
