Almost everyone who suffers from a cold has similar symptoms, although the symptoms can vary a great deal from person to person. You can always tell that you are about to get a cold because the symptoms come on, gradually over the course of a couple of days. The first thing that you may notice when you are about to get a cold is a burning or itching sensation in the back of your throat or in your nose. Pretty soon you’ll notice that you will start to sneeze and have a runny nose. Couple that with being tired and a general feeling of unwellness and you have yourself a common cold.
Mucus secretions in your nose and throat are very common when you suffer from a cold. Asher called progresses you’ll notice that the mucus becomes thicker, and maybe darker in color. The color of the mucus really cannot tell you whether or not you have a virus or a bacterial infection. The only thing that it tells you is that you’re sick. Most people that suffer from the cold also have a sore throat and a mild cough. This cough should not be serious and if it becomes a problem then you are probably suffering from something other than a cold.
Colds can last anywhere from three to seven days, depending on the severity. There are many over-the-counter treatments that you can use to help lessen the symptoms of your cold.
