Male hair loss is the commonly found type of hair loss. Baldness is more common in men than women. Hair loss in men is of two types such as Alopecia areata or spotty hair loss and Androgenetic alopecia or male pattern baldness. About 90% men suffer from the male pattern baldness. Spotty hair loss is an autoimmune disorder. Such type of hair loss can not be treated.

There are many causes of hair loss in men such as aging, hereditary, some drugs, illness and increased sensitivity to male sex hormones in some parts of scalp. The man having family history of baldness faces the problem of hair loss. The diseases such as thyroid disorders lupus, diabetes, high fever and recent surgery can lead to male hair loss. The medications like chemotherapy regimes and anticoagulants can cause the hair loss.

Inadequate diet is one of the prime causes of hair loss in men. Lack of iron and protein in diet can give rise to hair loss. Chemicals used for bleaching, hairstyling, dying and straightening are also some of the reasons of hair loss. The changes in the level of hormones including testosterone, androgens and related hormone DHT may cause the hair loss in male. The most common cause of hair loss among adult males is androgenetic alopecia.

The diagnosis of hair loss can by assessment of hair distribution and hair amount. Different length and thickness can help to diagnoses the androgenic alopecia. Skin problems causing the hair loss can be diagnosed by testing the sample of hair and skin from the affected area. If the hair loss is severe, the tests like blood tests and x-ray can be performed.

Depending upon the causes of hair loss in men, its treatment is decided. There are some herbal/natural treatments which involve a use of ingredients like green tea, ginko biloba, saw palmetto, pygeum africanum and stinging nettle. The medications such as Minoxidil and Finasteride are beneficial for treating the hair loss.
