Gout arises due to the increase in the uric acid levels in the body. Gout can be prevented only when the uric acid levels are kept down. Uric acid is formed in the body itself and it is possible to control its formation by exercising a control over the things which we eat. Several things have been found out which increase the uric acid levels in the body and therefore they can be considered as the causes of gout (gouty arthritis).

Purines are among the substances, which have an important role in the formation of uric acid the body. Therefore reducing the intake of Purines will also reduce the levels of uric acid and keep gout away. There are a large number of substances, which contain Purines. It is not possible to avoid all of them. However, the content of Purines in them varies and therefore it is advisable that people avoid those substances, which contain very high amount of Purines.

For example, the beverages as alcoholic drinks, coffee, chocolate, tea, cocoa, etc should be avoided as they high are high in Purines and moreover, do not provide any nutrition to the body. Avoiding these beverages may be difficult to most of the people. This will require some will and in addition to this to people can try out drinking fruit juices, soups, etc.

Non-vegetarian foods especially the parts like kidney, gizzard, heart, gravy, or the parts, which contain more amount of DNA or RNA, should be avoided. Preferably, the red meat and seafood should be avoided as they contain more Purines. They are among the causes of gout (gouty arthritis) and therefore if anybody is eating them he is doing nothing but increasing the chances of Gout.

The above-mentioned things are such that they cause some other problems as well and therefore most of the people would agree if they were told to avoid them. However, there are some substances, which are usually suggested as a part of an ideal diet for anybody, but these substances are among the causes of gout (gouty arthritis). Some of them are the leafy vegetables as Peas, lentils, or beans, etc are among them. In addition, the sugary fruits increase the chances of gout.

However, it is never advised to completely, avoid them even if they are among the causes of gout (gouty arthritis). However, they should be consumed in a controlled manner.

Avoiding the substances, which are among the causes of gout (gouty arthritis) and increase the risk of developing gout will definitely aid everybody. However avoiding them is very important for the patients of gout as this will keep them away from a gout attack.
