Canker Sore Cure

Canker sores are essentially ulcers in your mouth. The causes can be as varied as eating spicy food, heredity, forceful tooth brushing among several others. Treating canker sores can be quite a task owing to their location. The skin in your mouth is constantly wet and hence nothing sticks on to it, least of all, ointments. The lesions caused by canker sores tend to go away by themselves in about ten days. However, a lot of activities, especially eating can be really painful during these ten days. However, there are some home remedies that one can try out to cure these irritating lesions effectively and reduce the accompanying pain too.

Potassium chlorate is a widely recommended remedy. Mix one teaspoon of potassium chlorate in a cup of water and rinse the mouth with it several times a day. It serves as an antiseptic and helps heal the lesions. A used wet tea bag is another efficient cure. The tannin in tea is an excellent pain reliever and when placed on to the lesions, tends to relieve the burning sensation almost instantly. One could also chew cloves of garlic. Garlic too is a natural antibacterial and helps the sores heal quickly. Yet another remedy involves apple cider vinegar. Mix apple cider vinegar with warm water. Use this solution as a mouthwash to rinse your mouth several times a day. Coconut milk is another extremely effective remedy in healing canker sores. Gargle with coconut milk after each meal and you will find the sores visibly healed in the span of a few days. Alternately one could also use Aloe Vera juice as a mouthwash to achieve the same results. Another effective mouthwash is a mixture of a paste of fenugreek seeds in warm water.

Alum is another recommended home remedy to cure canker sores. Apply directly on to the canker sores at least twice a day. Alum being a natural pain reliever and antiseptic, definitely helps alleviate the burning sensation and prevents worsening of the infection, however, it does not really heal the sores. Yogurt can be tried with better results. Intake of at least 4 tablespoons each day, either directly or included in your diet, is advised to heal canker sores relatively quickly. Yogurt contains helpful bacteria that actually eliminate the dirty bacteria in your mouth that might worsen the infection. Direct application of baking soda over the canker sores is also an effective way to heal them.
