Symptoms of Esophagus Cancer

The esophagus is a hollow tube that runs from the throat to the stomach. Cancer of the esophagus usually occurs in the cells lining the inside of this tube and maybe in the form of a tumor. The cancer can occur anywhere in the esophagus. Symptoms include difficulty in swallowing food, heart burn, poor appetite, weight loss and vomiting with blood.

Esophagus Cancer Treatment

Surgery is usually the option for treating this kind of cancer but there are certain home remedies (listed below) which could also provide great help.

•    A change in lifestyle and eating habits is recommended. Do not eat three large meals; instead have several small meals a day. Take small bites and chew slowly so that the foods pass easily through the esophagus.
•    Have regular snacks as well.
•    Choose soft foods that are easy to swallow. Stay away from dried food or hard food - for instance meat and bread.
•    Soups, yogurts, milkshakes, smoothies, puddings, applesauce are good options as they are easy to move down the esophagus.
•    Always use a straw when drinking - this helps ease the strain on the esophagus
•    Other easy to swallow foods are sauces, creams, ice creams.
•    Pureeing foods is a good option if it is very painful to swallow foods.
•    Include fresh fruits and green vegetables in your diet.
•    Acidic foods like tomato based products and citrus juices should be avoided.
•    Black raspberries are a good source of minerals, plant compounds, vitamins and antioxidants and are known to be of benefit in esophagus cancer.
•    Refrain from eating spicy food.
•    A good home remedy to combat the side effects of esophagus cancer is the slippery elm powder. This is readily available at any herbal store and just needs to be added to a drink. It helps to soothe the esophagus and throat.
•    Strictly avoid smoking and consumption of alcohol.
•    Keep up the fluid intake by drinking plenty of water, juices between meals.
•    Oldenlandia, or herba hedyotidis - yet another herb that can be used to treat both the symptoms of esophagus cancer and fight the cancer as well.
•    Selaginella or herba selaginellae doederleinii is another herb that soothes the esophagus. Regular intake of this is very beneficial.
•    Sleep on a wedge pillow or elevate the head of your bed by a few inches.
•    Try to avoid hot drinks and have cool ones as far as possible.

Do remember that remedies for cancer largely depend on the type it is and the stage it is at.
