Women who are between 30 to 50 years old generally have a tendency to develop breast lumps. Numbers of conditions are responsible for the development of lumps in the breast. These conditions can sometimes be very minor and may need minimum attention. During breast self examination you may notice a change in your breast texture. But keep in mind that some breast lumps can be very dangerous.

There can be various types of breast lumps, and they are as follows;

Cysts: Dilated ducts sometimes lead to these cysts that look like fluid filled sacs. Cysts are round or oval, firm and smooth. When you press they move slightly. Women who are in perimenopause stage often detect these cysts. This happens due to fluctuating hormone levels in the body. Breasts lumps that are caused by cysts are hard and tender to touch. Cysts generally appear before your menstrual period and resolve quickly after your menstrual period. As cysts resolve the associated breast pain also vanishes. It is very difficult to detect cysts using clinical breast examination. The breast lump can be resolved by removing the fluid from the breast. If the breast lump does not return after 5 to 6 weeks then there is no need for further treatment. If it recurs then you have to take the help of surgery for removing it.

Fibroadenomas: They are firm, round rubbery masses that develop due to excessive growth of connective and glandular tissues. These masses may grow up to size of a plum. They are usually painless and benign. If you are suffering from fibroadenoma and you press the infected area it will move slightly or bounce back. Fibroadenomas may enlarge during pregnancy and can shrink after pregnancy. Treatment ranges from medication to lifestyle adjustment. You should cut down your intake of chocolates and caffeine.

Breast infections: This is caused by bacteria. During breast feeding bacteria enters the breast tissue. You may feel a thickened skin area or a breast lump. Treatment includes consumption of antibiotics

Fat Necrosis: This is nothing but injury or trauma to the breast caused due to an accident or a side effect of a surgery. Scars are developed on the lump tissue. The lump is round, firm and movable. Surgery is the best option to remove breast lumps caused by fat necrosis.
