Surgery is the most effective breast cancer treatment that is used widely. But, there are a number of breast cancer treatments available that can prove to be more effective than others. Some treatments are used along with surgery for getting better results for removing the cancerous cells and reducing the size of the tumor.

One type of breast cancer treatment relies on the use of the radiation therapy that utilizes gamma rays to target the particular area that needs to be treated with high precision. The radiation therapy is performed after the surgery for destroying the cancer cells that might remain in the body, inspite of the surgery. This therapy can stop the cancer from recurring. But, this process is very precise. It may damage the healthy cells, as well. This is so because the x-rays cannot differentiate between the healthy cells and the cancerous cells, thus burn them altogether.

Another breast cancer treatment is chemotherapy where drugs are administered to the patient for killing and stopping the cancer cells from growing. But, it is harsh regime that frequently makes the person feel more sick than the actually are. The common side effects of chemotherapy includes loss of appetite, hair loss, vomiting, fatigue and low blood cell count that makes a person feel sick, tired and more susceptible to infections. Sometimes there is more bleeding from the gums, small scrapes, sores, etc.

The biological therapy uses the immune system of the body to act up on cancer cells without affecting the healthy cells. This therapy is associated with minimum side effects. Antibodies like herception, angiogenesis inhibitors and signal transduction inhibitors are used for attacking the cancer cells. Its side effects include difficulty in breathing, nausea, dizziness, allergic reactions, fever and chills. A breast cancer treatment can prove to be an absolute life saver if chosen wisely.
