Blood Stool Causes

There could be a number of causes for the presence of blood in the stools. However, the first thing that needs to be done is to consult with a doctor. Further testing may be required in order to rule out anything serious. This is routine in the case of bleeding stools and should not be a cause for alarm. Meanwhile, certain things can be easily checked out at home in order to determine that there are no further problems. One of the most common causes of stools that bleed is stools that are hard. Hard stools can cause problems because they may apply a lot of pressure to the delicate nerve endings that surround the anus. Applying pressure, particularly with hard stools, can cause these nerve endings to rupture. This problem is commonly known as hemorrhoids. Elimination of this problem is essential, because hemorrhoids require proper attention and care. If troubled with hemorrhoids, the first thing to do is start using a laxative so that stools soften immediately. This alone will help with cessation of the bleeding. Psyllium husk is one of the best things that can help with this problem. It will help to soften stools as well as regulate the system. Dietary changes can be made as well, to include lots of fibrous fruits and vegetables to the diet. This will also help with softening stools and making the passage easier. Add peaches, papayas, plums, pears, pineapples and prunes for the purpose of helping along with comfortable bowel movements. Apart from fibrous fruits, foods such as oatmeal may also be added to the diet in order to help with regulating the stools. Severe constipation may also be responsible for bleeding stools. Excessive straining and hardened stools is a combination that can be responsible for bleeding of the anal area, and not necessarily bleeding of the stools. There is the possibility that one may be mistaken for the other, and only a close medical examination can reveal otherwise.

Other problems may involve stomach disorders that can cause internal bleeding as well. Sometimes, stomach ulcers can erupt on their own and cause this symptom. In these cases, medical help is completely required. It would be unwise to attempt to do anything at home. In some serious cases, bleeding stools could also indicate the presence of stomach cancer. However, such conclusions cannot be made until a physical examination is made by a qualified doctor.
