Natural Remedies for Bed Wetting

It’s very common for a young boy or girl to wake up in the middle of the night or early in the morning to find that they have wet the bed. While it can be socially embarrassing, it is normal for some to go through that phase. Bedwetting, also known as enuresis, is more common in boys than in girls and will usually go away when greater control of the bladder is gained. The reason that a boy or girl wets the bed in their younger years is more likely to be because they were not able to feel that their bladders were full and hence unable to wake up to urinate. At times, the child will have a realistic dream that they are relieving themselves in the bathroom while actually relieving themselves on the bed.

Some factors that causes bed wetting are: Difficulty in waking up from your sleep, stress, genetics (as it can tend to run down from previous generations), urinary tract infections, a small bladder as well as a slow development of the central nervous system, which will help the child control the bladder at night.

In order to reduce and finally stop instances of bedwetting, a few changes in lifestyle may be in order. Discourage your child from drinking too much liquid from the onset of the evening. Fluids must be had in healthy proportions throughout the morning and afternoon. Make sure the child goes to the toilet before bedtime and have plenty of cover during the winter or in cold weather. Abut an hour or so before retiring for the night, you could also make your child drink six to eight oz. of cranberry juice. Another home remedy for bedwetting is to have two teaspoons of walnut halves and one teaspoon of raisins before going to sleep. Some herbs will also help fight bedwetting. Try using herbs like lycopodium, ursi, corn silk, pulsatilla and causticum. Once a child starts to grow, he or she should be asked to practice retention control by postponing urination by a few minutes. It is not advisable to postpone urination for more than a few minutes. This will help to promote better bladder control. Another trusted herbal remedy for bed wetting is to drink an herbal tea made from herbs like oak bark, wormwood or horsetail. Do not scold your child or make him/her feel that this is their fault as it most definitely is not. This is often a sensitive issue for children so do not joke about it with friends or family.
