Bad Breath Remedies

Bad breath is a common problem that we all experience at some time or the other. Usually, bad breath happens when proper oral hygiene is not maintained. If we do not pay much attention to brushing and flossing our teeth regularly, the residual food particles in the mouth start decomposing and give out a foul smell. Bacteria thrive on decomposed food in our mouth and then form cavities and other mouth infections. There are several other factors that may increase the chances of bad breath. Dehydration, constipation, alcohol abuse, poor lifestyle, improper diet, and smoking are some of the most notable factors that can lead to bad breath. Some underlying dental diseases may also produce bad breath.

Bad breath remedy begins with a proper oral care routine. Brush and floss your teeth regularly so that your mouth is cleansed properly. Also, it is always better if you can visit a dentist at regular intervals so that any possible oral disorder is identified at the earliest and gets treated appropriately. Plaque and cavities, where bacteria breed easily, need to be treated by a dentist as early as possible. A common home remedy for bad breath is to brush your teeth by adding a bit of baking soda (or hydrogen peroxide) to the toothpaste. Brushing your teeth with powdered clove or myrrh also helps. Yet another home remedy for bad breath is to mix apple cider vinegar and common salt in lukewarm water and then use it to wash or gurgle your mouth. Some herbal tea made of clove and fennel seeds are also good for fighting bad breath. Other herbs like parsley, mint, basil, and thyme are equally helpful. You can chew the leaves of these herbs to get rid of bad breath. Sucking on fresh lemon slices is also helpful for fighting bad breath.

Diet is also important to fight bad breath. Eat a high fiber diet of vegetables and fruits so that your digestion improves. Limit your intake of high fat foods like meat and dairy products. Garlic, onions, cheese, caffeinated beverages, and alcohol are also better avoided. Since dehydration is also responsible for giving rise to bad breath, you should ensure that you drink plenty of water throughout the day. You should also plan your diet in such a way that the food you eat contains vitamin B, vitamin C, and zinc. You can take special supplements as well, if the dietary intake seems insufficient.
