Avascular Necrosis - Treatments, Causes, Remedies
The tissues in our body develop and function with the blood that is supplied to them. When the blood stops being supplied, the tissues die. This is exactly what happens in Avascular Necrosis. Avascular Necrosis is a condition that develops when the bone tissues in a person’s body die because of lack of blood being supplied to these tissues. In this condition, the bones start to splinter and eventually break down. There could be several reasons for the blood to stop reaching the bone tissues. One major cause is severe injury to the bone – that is, a fracture or even a joint that has been dislocated due to an accident. This kind of injury would turn traumatic if the blood vessels that carry the blood to these bones are damaged. When this happens the bone is deprived of its source of nutrients and oxygen, leading to the death of the bone cells. Another thing that brings about this condition is excessive intake of certain anti-inflammatory medicines that are usually used by those suffering from either lupus or arthritis. Those who drink heavily, over a period of several years, are also highly prone to this condition. Fatty deposits develop due to this kind of drinking and when these fatty deposits enter the blood stream, they start blocking the flow of blood, thus leading to this condition.
Avascular Necrosis Symptoms
Usually there are no immediately recognizable symptoms or signs that you have developed this condition except for the persistent pain in the affected area or the loss of the full range of motion that the joint is capable of. Also, being a progressive condition, Avascular Necrosis becomes worse with time. It is therefore a condition that needs to be taken care of for as long as you live. The areas that usually get affected by this are the area where two bones meet. Spine, jaw, foot and ankles might also get affected but these occurrences are rare. There is no known treatment to cure Avascular Necrosis. But you need to start treating this condition to prevent the further loss of bone tissues. For this, you need to consult your physician immediately. Your initial treatment, in terms of taking medications, will involve taking care of the pain caused by this condition. You will also need to rest at regular intervals to avoid stressing the affected bone. There are certain Ayurvedic medications also that will help to increase the supply of blood and to strengthen the bones.
