The affliction can be long term, with no immediate cure. However, there are a number of herbal cures which when administered with regularity, can ease the condition and provide succor.
Garlic is one of the most recommended home remedies in the treatment of asthma. Grind some garlic, mix it with boiled milk and drink it regularly as soon as you start spotting the first signs of asthma. This treatment is extremely effective in reducing the inflammation caused by the disease. One could also use turmeric in a similar fashion. Mix it in the form of fresh paste or turmeric powder with boiled milk and drink it at least twice each day. The roots of bitter gourd plant are another recommended cure. Mix it with an equal amount of honey and consume it twice each day for a month. This treatment visibly reduces the symptoms of asthma in about a month’s time. Honey by itself is also an excellent remedy. One could either consume it directly or hold a jug filled with honey under the nose and inhale the air to treat asthma.
Ginger too is extremely effective. Mix it with a cup of fenugreek decoction and natural honey and consume thrice a day. Ginger is an expectorant and hence aids the fight against asthma. Drumstick leaves are another remedy. Make a soup using a handful of drumstick leaves in boiling water, add a little salt, pepper and lime juice and consume it once a day. Within a few weeks, you will see the symptoms having reduced considerably in intensity. Honey mixed with ground basil leaves is also useful against asthma. One could also just chew on basil leaves to obtain relief. Massaging the patient’s chest with mustard oil is another effective home remedy. Mix the mustard oil with some camphor and rub it on to the chest. Leave it on for at least half an hour. This treatment eases the sufferer’s breathing and loosens up the phlegm that accumulates in the chest as in the case of asthma. Gooseberry mixed with honey has also been used effectively to treat asthma. Add five grams of gooseberry to a tablespoon of honey and administer it orally every morning to relieve the symptoms of asthma.
