Adhd Herbal Remedies

People with ADHD experience learning disabilities, become very forgetful, have an impaired judgment, talk excessively, have trouble concentrating, have a relatively short attention span and cannot seem to get organized. Studies have linked a few other disorders to ADHD like learning disorders, conduct disorder, ophthalmic convergence insufficiency and antisocial personality disorder. Patients suffering from ADHD are likely to have a genetic predisposition for it.

An important function of the human brain is to help coordinate external stimuli. This is under taken by a section of our brain called the reticular activating system. This system functions with the neither help of a chemical called nor epinephrine that helps carry neural information between the different sections of the brain. What this does, is, it activates certain areas of the brain while leaving some inactive. This helps us concentrate or focus on certain tasks. When the system malfunctions and the brain is no able to decipher information accurately a person is said to suffer from ADHD. This causes our neural network to become overly taxed by all the external and internal stimuli and leads to aggression, irritation and anxiety.

The following measures can be used as home remedies to manage ADHD:

• Sugar impairs the brain’s ability to react to nor epinephrine. By cutting the amount of sugar you consume daily one can reduce anxiety and other problems associated with ADHD.

• In the many cases, especially children, our bodies are allergic to certain artificial food colors like the yellow, blue and red food dyes commonly found in foods. Eat natural foods and avoid foods with too much of preservatives and colors.

• Studies have shown that even basic foods that we consume on a daily basis like cow’s milk, citrus, tomatoes and peanuts can have allergen that can aggravate ADHD. If your child suffers from this disorder observe his eating habits and watch what foods trigger the symptoms of ADHD and find substitutes.

• Herbs like Ginkgo biloba, Centella asiatica (Gotu cola), Matricaria recutita (German chamomile, Scuttellaria laterifolia (skull cap), Avina sativa (Green oats), Utrica urens (Umbabazane in Africa) and Aspalathus linearis (Rooibos) have proven to be very effective in combating ADHD. However, it is recommended that you see a doctor or some one qualified to prescribe the right dosage for the consumption of these herbs.

If these don’t help then it is necessary to see a qualified doctor. There are prescription drugs that can help combat ADHD. These psycho stimulant and anti-depressant drugs however, loose their effectiveness in the long run. When this happens, the rebound aggression and depression that follows can be worse than the original symptom itself. Excessive use of these drugs also almost triggers lethargy.
