Acidosis Control
Acidosis is termed as the condition where the acid levels in the blood are high. It may be caused by changes in the metabolism. It is sometimes caused by an inability of the kidneys to extract acid from the blood to be passed out as urine. This is either due to a failure of kidney function or the excessive presence of acid in the blood. A particularly common form of acidosis in athletes is what is known as ‘having acid’. It is the condition where lactic acid is released in the muscles during heavy exercise and because of the rapid speed of exercise those muscles do not get enough oxygen. Usually, acidosis caused by exercise disappears once the person stops physical exertion as the oxygen supply will be restored to the muscles. However, athletes who have over exerted themselves may be at risk of developing heart conditions related to acidosis. If left untreated, acidosis can lead to heart attacks, kidney problems, and other related conditions.
If you are diagnosed with acidosis, you can try to reduce the acid content in your body using dietary methods. Fruits and vegetables are non acidic in nature. Consuming these daily will help introduce good nutrition and reduce the acid content in your stomach. This in turn will translate to a reduced concentration of acid in your blood as well. If you hydrate yourself well you will naturally reduce the acidity levels in your body. A person who is not hydrated enough will suffer from a concentration of substances in the body. These may be acidic in nature and would naturally translate to acidosis. Water will dilute such substances and reduce their acidic effect. Drinking plenty of water daily is a habit that leads to an improvement in overall health in any case. Water helps digestion, helps urination to pass out toxins and is necessary to help maintain a healthy balance in the body.
When it comes to diet, you should avoid excessively spicy foods as these may cause acid related problems in the digestive system, which in turn will affect the acid balance in the blood. There are some natural agents that reduce acidity like honey and garlic. There are also several digestive aids that you could consume such as mint. Juice from the gooseberry fruit is useful to reduce acidity. In fact, this juice offers several health benefits due to its medicinal properties.
