Natural cure for weight loss

What to do for reducing weight?
(23 Oct 2007)

Losing weight is not as easy as putting it on and is a very common problem faced by a large number of people. Being overweight can many a times affect a person’s self confidence and may at times, even become a cause for depression. The ideal weight that a person needs to maintain will depend on two factors; the individual’s height and the sex.

When a persons weight is more than 10-20 percent more than what the normal average is, the person is considered to be overweight. On the other hand being under the average limit is a condition termed as being underweight. A lot of reasons can lead a person to become overweight such as: lack of exercise or a sedentary lifestyle, improper eating habits, genetics, over eating, side effect of medication etc. Being over weight is not a healthy condition as the excess weight tends to apply additional pressure on the body’s organs such as the heart, kidneys and liver.

A lot of people tend to be a few calories over-weight, which can be taken care of easily. It is only when the weight gain is excessive that it leads to a condition known as obesity. Home remedies can help a person burn off calories effectively. One of the simplest ways to lose weight would be to drink a mixture of water and honey. Add a teaspoon of honey to a glass of warm water and drink it. This mixture should be had daily, first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach. This will yield positive results if done consistently. An alternative to this would be, to make a mixture from a teaspoon of honey, a glass of warm water and a table spoon of lime juice. This should be had first thing in the morning too and thereafter every 3 hours. Eating 2 tomatoes as breakfast every morning will also help in shedding some calories.

Boil a glassful of water, to this add a few lemon slices and ginger. Let the water simmer for 5 minutes, after which take it off the flame and let it cool. Once the water is favorably warm, strain it into a glass. This decoction should then be had while it is still warm. It will reduce the tendency to over eat. Add a teaspoon of honey, quarter teaspoon of black pepper (powdered), 3 teaspoons of lime juice and 1 cup of water. This concoction if had daily will help in losing a lot of weight.

Required weight loss is assessed by a Body Mass Index. The Body Mass Index is a statistical measure that calculates the weight of the body divided by the square of the height.  A normal range of 18.5-22.9 helps us understand whether we are obese or underweight. Straying away from the normal range is usually attributed to body fat and this calculator therefore helps us understand the extent of weight loss required in relation to our height. Weight loss is required by many men and women to maintain good physique and an attractive personality. But it is important to lose weight in the right manner and not succumb to fad diets. Short term diets or fads can help you lose weight instantaneously but as you shift to your normal eating pattern the pounds will creep in too. Weight loss requires twin strategies to help you reach your desirable goal. Primarily, exercise is a must. This should be complimented with a healthy, balanced and nutritive meal.

Exercise helps you spend energy or calories. Burning the calories with the help of exercise will help reduce accumulated fat deposits while diet or food intake adds calories. Therefore, eating healthy and non fatty alternatives will help reduce chances of adding weight. Simply put, 3500 calories are equal to half a kilogram of body weight. To lose half a kilogram you need to eat 3500 less calories supported by adequate exercise. Though it appears to be simple it is not easy to simply cut down 3500 calories in food intake alone. So, you can reduce the food intake slightly but support the intake with additional calorie expenditure. Increase or step up your work out to lose more calories per day. Try some simple techniques such as giving up on one pat of butter or margarine, that extra spoon of sugar, cakes or pastries to reduce the accumulated fat deposits gradually.

Drink a lot of water to help keep your digestive system functioning better. Eight to ten glasses a day also helps flush toxins and keeps skin healthy. Chew your food leisurely enjoying each morsel. Eating slowly can make the stomach feel satisfied with a light meal instead of a heavy one. Try to have four to five mini meals instead of three mega meals. Choose fiber and whole grains over refined and junk foods. Choose salads and fresh juices over fried snacks and carbonated beverages. Switch to steamed or baked foods instead of fried or grilled foods.
