What are the causes of tooth abscess?
An abscess in the mouth occurs when an infection develops and spreads to the teeth and the gums. The development of an infection can make the area very tender and painful.
Chewing may not be possible in the affected side of the mouth. Furthermore, one may also suffer from pain while consuming hot or cold beverages. One must examine the causes of the condition to ensure that steps are taken to avoid painful symptoms of tooth abscess.
The most common cause of this problem is related to poor oral hygiene. The mouth is an area of the body where infections can easily develop. The consumption of food is not always followed up with a wash or cleaning procedure. Thus, food particles may remain in the mouth for long periods of time. Often these particles get lodged in various recesses in the teeth and gums. Bacterial infections are very common and can cause cavities also. Some individuals who suffer from autoimmune conditions may also be vulnerable to the development of dental abscesses even if they follow decent hygiene procedures. Individuals must make sure that they keep their mouths clean at all time, washing between meals. The consumption of water is also useful for rinsing the mouth and removing any lodged dirt particles.

How do I get relief from an abscessed tooth pain?
Although dentists recommend painkillers and other conventional medications for an abscessed tooth many people still prefer using simple home remedies which are definitely a safer option. One of the best home remedies for abscessed tooth pain relief is a mouthwash of ½ glass of water and ¼ teaspoon potassium carbonate. This mouthwash should be used to rinse the mouth at least 3-4 times a day to get effective pain relief from an abscessed tooth as it is very effective in destroying bacteria. Clove powder can also be stuffed into the affected tooth to provide pain relief.
Another good tooth abscess home treatment is a black tea bag (either dry or wet) or even a piece of raw potato. This can be applied on the affected tooth for a few hours or even overnight. This home remedy not only helps in reducing the inflammation and pain but also helps in draining out the pus from the abscessed tooth. An herbal mixture of ½ teaspoon each of clove oil, golden seal, olive oil, 3 teaspoons of activated charcoal and ½ teaspoon of cayenne pepper is a good home remedy for abscessed tooth pain relief. This mixture has effective antibacterial properties which help in reducing inflammation effectively.

How to get rid of tooth abscess?
A tooth abscess is basically an accumulation of pus in the jaw bone tissues that are present just at the tip of the tooth that may be infected. One of the ways to get rid of a tooth abscess is to gargle ones mouth with some lukewarm salt water. This is known to be an effective cure for tooth abscess because the salt tends to have an antiseptic effect on the tooth abscess whereas the warm water will help in relaxing the oral cavity. A cure for tooth abscess in case it still hasn’t erupted is to dip a cotton swab in a mixture of a tablespoon each of salt and baking soda and then rub this cotton swab over the gums.
While doing so one should try and press slightly more on the abscessed tooth. A natural remedy to get rid of tooth abscess would be to gargle the mouth with some water in which a few drops of tea tree oil have been added. This should be done at least five times a day. To get rid of a tooth abscess one may also sprinkle some salt on a dry tea bag and then place this tea bag right next to the infected tooth with the abscess as the tea tends to get rid of the infection.
