Home remedies for hemorrhoids

What are home remedies for hemorrhoids
( 8 Oct 2007)

Hemorrhoids are one of the most painful as well as the most socially embarrassing conditions to be afflicted by. Given the amount of social embarrassment surrounding the medical ailment, most people affected by it are unwilling or unready to disclose the information to even close friends and relatives – allowing the condition to get a lot worse, as a direct result of it not being sufficiently treated during its developmental phase. Hemorrhoids are the inflammation of the tissues and veins that surround the anus and can occur internally or externally.

If the condition is external, the inflammation is clearly visible and the soft pulpy tissue extends out of the body via the anus. If the condition is internal, there are no visible signs of inflammation and most correct diagnosis will be based on the other prominent symptoms caused by the condition. Some of the most common factors causing the condition include straining excessively during a bowel movement, prolonged sitting, a sedentary lifestyle, anal intercourse or infection, constant standing or lifting too much weight, an unhealthy diet that is significantly lacking in fiber content or even medical conditions that apply excessive pressure on the lower abdomen such as pregnancy. Some of the more common symptoms of hemorrhoids include incomplete bowel movements, being able to feel a soft lump at the anal opening or even a loss of a small amount of blood during a bowel movement. The developments of hemorrhoids are equally common in men and women and almost half the population of the United States of America has experienced the condition by the age of 50. Some of the best ways to prevent the development of hemorrhoids is to make sure that your stool remains soft and easy to pass through a bowel movement, as well as making sure your body gets a significant amount of exercise.

Using a sitz bath is one of the most effective ways of treating hemorrhoids. All you need to do is fill your bath with about four inches of warm water and sit in it for about 15 minutes at several periods through the course of the day. You do not need to add any substances or lotions to the water for this to be effective. If the condition is external, you can create a paste of well ground radish and some milk and apply the paste over the inflammation to get significant relief from the pain and swelling. Drinking a cup of cold milk boiled with mashed banana three times a day will also prove beneficial.
