Detoxification also very commonly referred to as detox, is a continuous and natural process that the body adopts, in-order to neutralize as well eliminate toxins and other unwanted substances from the body. Toxins are mainly substances that have the potential to cause harm to the various body tissues, thus eliminating them is of prime importance. As per physicians, an individual needs to detoxify the body every six months.


This would go a long way in maintaining good health. The blood would be fee of any unwanted impurities and the kidneys would be cleaned in the process as well. Thus it is extremely important to detoxify the body.

There are several home detoxification remedies that can help you in maintaining a clean and healthy system. Dandelion is one of the most popular remedies that is used to detoxify the body. It increases the production of bile and also stimulates it to flow to the gall bladder. Besides it contains polysaccharide insulin that boosts the immune system as well as the white blood cells. Simply add a few dandelion leaves to a cup of water and boil the two. Once the water has boiled, strain it and drink this when warm enough. The root of dandelion can also be used for making the tea. Licorice root is also very effective in detoxifying the body. It has been used for several kidney and liver ailments. It is known to possess antiviral, antioxidant and antibody stimulating qualities that help in protecting and detoxifying the liver. Licorice root tea can be prepared just like your regular tea. Add it to one cup of water and let it simmer on a low flame. Strain the water after about 15 minutes and add a spoon of honey for taste.

Milk thistle is also a very good liver tonic. It contains an ingredient called silymarin, which is known to help repair damage caused to the liver due to alcohol abuse, medication and hepatitis. This herb will help in strengthening the liver to a large extent. This can also be had in the form of a tea. Vegetable and fruit juices are ideal for detoxification. They act as the regenerators, builders, energizers and cleansers of your system. They can be consumed in the whole form as well. Grapes, asparagus, parsley spinach and sweet potatoes are some of the excellent detoxifiers. Cranberry juice too is considered to be good for cleaning the system.

Detoxification is a technique by which the body is cleansed. Cleansing naturally helps in improving circulation of the body. Cleansing the body is done by refuelling the body with nutrients. Elimination of wastes proves useful in detoxification. Toxins from the liver have to be removed. Leading a proper stress free lifestyle helps in waste removal. Adequate intake of water, around 8 to 10 glasses per day is useful. Yoga and meditation helps in deep breathing. This enables proper circulation of oxygen, thereby cleansing the body. Supplementation of vitamin C helps in the synthesis of glutathione, which in turn helps in toxin elimination. Herbs, such as milk thistle, burdock, dandelion roots are helpful in cleansing the liver. Sauna helps in toxin elimination through excessive perspiration. Hydrotherapy with a hot shower proves beneficial in toxin removal. Adequate intake of raw vegetables and fresh fruits is effective in toxin removal. Dietary fibre in the diet aids in cleansing and detoxifying the colon. Detoxification diet is not recommended for women who are pregnant and lactating. Refined foods, carbonated beverages, junk foods, sweeteners and soft drinks are better avoided.
