 Advice on poison ivy

Urushiol oil is the component in poison ivy, which causes itching and reddening of the skin. Always wash the affected area, associated clothing, such as dress, bed linen and so on. Rashes result in severe itching, which can be relieved to a certain extent by running hot water on the affected area. Cover with a dry gauze, in case of blisters. Itching and blistering is also prevented by topical application of aloe vera gel. Wetting the area with buttermilk is also effective. A poultice comprising of petroleum jelly and powdered alum proves beneficial. The juice of catnip leaves is effective, as it has anti inflammatory properties. Dabbing of calamine lotion is recommended. Equal parts of water and cider vinegar are a good rinse to relieve itching by poison ivy. Cornstarch is dusted on the affected area. Soaked epsom salt or a paste made of epsom salt is useful. A decoction of goldenseal in water is helpful in relieving the reddening and itch. Blisters are healed in a rapid manner, by the application of tea tree oil. Supplements of ascorbic acid helps in wound healing. Antihistamine tablets help in sensitive people.
