Advice on high blood pressure

High blood pressure or hypertension is a common condition seen to occur in all individuals. It is not a disease on its own, but indicates the presence of an underlying condition. Stress, poor lifestyle, improper eating habits, emotional issues, obesity and heredity are some of the common contributing factors.

The tension in the arteries is increased in hypertensive patients. The normal blood pressure is 120/80 mmHg. Hypertension increases the risk of renal failure, cardiac problems, stroke and visual problems. It is also referred to as a 'silent killer', as the symptoms fail to show up, until the condition becomes severe. Change in lifestyle with good eating regimen and exercise is helpful. Meditation and yoga are vital in controlling high blood pressure. Supplements of antioxidant vitamins, omega 3 fatty acids, calcium, potassium and magnesium prove beneficial. Garlic is an effective remedy in lowering bad cholesterol, plaque reduction and control of hypertension. Indian gooseberry or gooseberry and guggulu are also herbs that control blood pressure. Celery is an age old remedy. The seeds of water melon are effective in regulating hypertension. Read our article entitled, ‘Hypertension’ for causes, symptoms and home remedies.
