Chicken Pox Prevention Advice

Chicken pox is a contagious disease, especially affecting children. It is not a fatal disease, though proper care is essential. It is caused by Varicella virus and is accompanied by red blisters or boils.

Prevention is quiet difficult, as the mode of transmission is through air. Due to this reason, infection with the virus is easy and unavoidable. Infants below one year, with an already infected mother are less prone to infection. Catching infection from individuals who have hardly realized the infection is possible.

Vaccination against chicken pox is available. It is an essential part of child vaccination and proves to be 85 to 90 per cent effective. Reimmunization with a higher dose in the latter part of life prevents the incidence of shingles. Newborn infants are greatly at risk. Secondary infection is also equally problematic. Aggravation of the symptoms is prevented by resting at home.

Individuals with chicken pox take four to five days for the stoppage of lesion formation. Washing the hands and proper hygiene are necessary to prevent further infection. A strong immune system is helpful in effective control or prevention of chicken pox. Immediate vaccination after exposure to virus proves beneficial in controlling infection.
