The best way to treat a sty is by taking a washcloth and getting it wet with water that is as hot as you can possibly stand it. Take this washcloth and hold it over your eye, making a point not to scrub the sty itself, let the washcloth rest over your eyes until it starts to cool. Then get the washcloth wet again with hot water and repeat the process listed above until your total treatment time has reached 30 minutes.
Repeat this treatment three times per day to speed the healing process. Take care not to rub or scrub the area that is affected as this will only slow down healing time and increase your level of discomfort. Of course, the best way to treat this problem is to prevent it from happening in the first place. This can be done by carefully and thoroughly washing your face and eyes with warm water two to three times per day. Even though this can be unsightly, avoid putting any sort of cosmetics on the area until it is completely healed. This will prevent infection and even more discomfort. Again, rubbing the area or scrubbing it with a washcloth will only cause you more discomfort and enlarge the sty.
