Health advice on anemia

Decrease in the red blood cell count is anaemia. It is a common disorder of the blood. It is not a disease, but a symptom of an underlying disease.

Problems in menstrual cycle also cause anaemia. Fatigue, pale skin, coldness of limbs, weakness, cognitive problems, dizziness, irregular heart beat, headache and shortness of breath are the typical symptoms of anaemia. Certain medications are effective in fighting infection and increasing the synthesis of blood cells from the bone marrow. Three major causes of anaemia are loss of blood, inadequate production of red blood cells and increased destruction of red blood cells. Other contributing causes include mineral or vitamin deficiency, infection, cancer, toxin exposure and heredity. Severe anaemia calls for immediate medical attention. Transfusion of normal red blood cells from a donor is essential. Treatment of spleen or its removal helps in decreasing the destruction of red blood cells. Supplements of cobalamine, folic acid and iron prove beneficial. Foods containing vitamin C, such as indian gooseberry, citrus fruits and so on help in iron absorption. A lot of information is available regarding the causes, symptoms and remedies for anaemia.
