Home remedies for hives

Averting the substance causing trigger or acting as a stimulus is important in treatment of hives. Home remedies fail to act, when the identified cause is not removed. Hives are triggered by several factors.

Allergy to foods, exposure to harsh chemicals, fever, exercise, stress and skin scratching are a few of them. Try checking out substitutes for the medicine used, as worsening of hives or urticaria is difficult to cope up with. Antihistamines also prove beneficial. Oral corticosteroids are opted for, if antihistamines fail to react. Avoid scratching the affected area. Placing an ice pack is also an effective remedy. Wrap the affected area with an elastic cotton bandage. A towel dipped in cold milk acts as an effective compress. Wearing gloves, especially in bed, helps in preventing scratching. Oatmeal or baking soda in the bath is also beneficial in overcoming the itchiness. Avoid wearing tight clothes, as they aggravate the itch. Moisturizers play a vital role in hives caused by dry skin. Avoid anti-itch topical creams, as certain lotions increase the severity of hives. Consult your physician for immediate guidance. Read more ways to overcome hives.
