I have a good portion of my face covered in melanin. have tried several over the counter bleaches, chemical peels. please suggest something herbal.

There are many herbal preparations that are available to balance your skin tone. Primarily, you need to remember that with fairer skin comes less resistance to the sun. The sun’s rays are the primary cause of skin damage for all of us and a good herbal sunscreen and wearing a hat whenever you are outside – even on overcast days - will go a long way in preserving you skin.

When looking at products to bleach your skin, be aware that some may also cause damage, especially those containing hydroquinone, which has been banned in a number of countries. However, there are other products that also work in a similar manner to hydroquinone without posing a health risk if used carefully. Skin products containing vitamin C, and glycyrrhetinic acid, which comes from Liquorice are known to inhibit the enzyme, tyrosinase, that stimulates melanin production will assist in balancing your skin tone and will work to lighten your skin. Once or twice a week, you can use an oatmeal scrub to remove the dead skin cells and stimulate the skin’s circulation. Over time, the effort will pay off with a balanced skin tone and healthier clearer skin.

Internally, Vitamin C, Vitamin E and a quality B complex will help to reduce the environmental effects on your skin. Remember that your skin reflects your inner health, and a diet that is high in fiber, such as brown rice, whole grain breads and pastas, lean proteins such as chicken and deep sea fish, leafy green vegetables, including salads and steamed vegetables and fresh fruit will help your skin look its best.
