Treatment on psoriatic arthritis

Psoriasis is a skin condition related to the poor immunity levels of the individual. People with psoriasis develop swelling of joints. Psoriatic arthritis is commonly seen in individuals suffering from psoriasis. Hence this problem should be initially addressed, as untreated psoriasis causes psoriatic arthritis. Identification of symptoms is difficult, as arthritis develops even before the onset of skin lesions. Addressing arthritis and treating is equally vital, as failure of this result in debilitating effects. Various kinds of psoriatic arthritis are seen to occur. They are spondylitis, asymmetric arthritis, arthritis mutilans, symmetric arthritis and distal interphalangeal predominant arthritis. Treatments include use of non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs or NSAIDs. Chronic drug abuse causes intestinal problems. Consult a dermatologist before going in for NSAIDs. Disease modifying anti rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) are effective in treating psoriasis. This is done by suppressing the immune system. Gold salts are also recommended, by certain physicians. Biologic therapy involves the usage of certain medications that targets the immune system and protects the joints from inflammation. A balanced diet with regular exercise helps in improving the flexibility and strength of an individual. Visit your dermatologist for further guidance.
