Remedies for dry eyes

You need to first determine the reasons your eyes are dry and then eliminate those that do not apply and focus on the ones that do for a permanent solution. This problem could occur if you are before a computer screen too much and don't blink often enough, or if you are in an environment that is artificially too hot or too cold. Too much air conditioning or forced heat makes the eyes dry, since both environments have a tendency to dry up the air.

In such cases, it is advisable to use a humidifier to maintain moisture levels. You must also blink frequently – make it a conscious habit.

Simple but effective home remedies for dry eyes include dipping a clean cloth in warm water and placing it over your eyes about thrice a day.

This will help them tear up. A good alternative to the “artificial tears” available in the market is rose water. You should pour a couple of drops of rose water in each eye about five to six times a day to keep them lubricated and cool. This will also help in relaxing tired eyes. Another good tonic to keep your eyes lubricated and conditioned is cucumber juice. If you do not have the time to do this task, you can also place slices of cucumber on your closed eyes for about 10 minutes thrice a day. Reduce eye strain by wearing dark glasses every time you go out in the sun.
