Treatment for swollen gland

Lymph nodes are the glands that help you fight any kind of infection that attacks the immune system in your body. Sometimes these very nodes fall prey to an infection. Under such circumstances they swell up and often cause pain.

While an infection is usually the most common explanation for the swelling of these nodes, there could be other reasons too. Under very rare circumstances abscess or even cancer can cause a swelling. In some cases your enlarged lymph node may be traced to some medication that you are taking.

Also, since you have mentioned that the swelling is accompanied by a pain in  the ear, I would urge you to seek professional help. Visiting a doctor will help you put your mind to rest about such fears.

Your gland may be swollen due to an infection of the throat. If your throat  hurts, then you can try to treat this by dosing yourself with hot water with lemon and honey in it. A sore throat can also be treated by the simple method of gargling with warm water to which salt has been added. An infusion made of fresh ginger will also help treat the infection. Boil one cup of water and then add some fresh ginger pieces to it. Boil it. Strain it. You can add some honey before you down it.
