Cannabis (or marijuana/weed/pot) is a drug substance that tends to remain in the system for a long period after it has been consumed, sometimes as much as weeks or even months after consumption. This is because it is a fat-soluble substance that easily gets absorbed in the fatty tissues of the body. It then gets stored in the various organ tissues for a long time, until it is gradually excreted over a period of time via metabolism.


It is thus very difficult to avoid its detection in the blood and takes a very long time to remove it from the blood. Even after it stops showing in the blood, it invariably shows up in hair samples even several months after consumption.
