Diabetes is one of the most common conditions prevalent in individuals today. The condition is said to occur when the body contains a high level of blood glucose, another determining factor is the excretion of excess glucose in the urine. The body is not able to break down sugar in the body nor is it able to create any insulin for the body.

This causes a build up of sugar levels in the body and a significant loss of energy. The condition is spreading rapidly in the United States of America and studies show about fifteen million people are affected by the condition today. Diabetes is mainly classified into two groups. Type 1 diabetes indicates the presence of insulin dependant diabetes, while type 2 diabetes refers to the existence of non insulin dependant diabetes. In type 1diabetes, the body does not produce enough insulin to normalize blood sugar levels and will normally occur in children or adolescents but can develop at any age. Patients suffering from this condition require insulin on a daily basis. Type 2 diabetes is more common amongst adults and is prevalent mainly in individuals that are over the age of 40 and overweight. Blood sugar levels may be best controlled with the help of regular exercise, weight loss and a well balanced diet.

Some of the main indicators that you are suffering from diabetes include an increased level of thirst, frequent urination, an increase in the appetite, a noticeably decreased capacity of healing, erectile dysfunction and problems or even a significant weakness or loss of strength. Type 1 diabetes is also characterized by the sudden loss of weight while the sudden increase in weight could be a sign of type 2 diabetes.

Due to the fact that diabetes is a rather common problem, there are a number of home remedies that have proved to be useful the world over. For example, you could boil 15 fresh mango leaves in a glass of water and leave it overnight before filtering and consuming the juice the next morning. Another option is to combine dried gooseberry powder with turmeric powder in equal amounts. Add some honey to this mixture and consume it on a daily basis. You could also try drinking 1 liter of cinnamon water mashed with 3 to 4 leaves of a jamun tree for a period of 10 days. This prevents the conversion of starch into sugar – thereby helping significantly in managing the sugar levels within the body.

Alternative cure for diabetes

If you have just been diagnosed with the disease, it will be fairly easy to control at this point. It will require strict dieting and a regiment to be followed. Every morning, on an empty stomach, drink a small glass of fresh bitter gourd juice. Simmer a teaspoon of cinnamon powder in a litre of boiling water till the quantity of water is halved and strain. Drinking this every day will help bring your blood sugar count under control. A pod of garlic eaten once a day is also beneficial.

Avoid large meals, opting for at least five small meals throughout the day. You can split breakfast into two, lunch, dinner and a couple of snacks after early evening. Cut carbohydrates in your diet. This would indicate not eating too much of white bread or flour-based products. Contrary to popular belief, fruits are high in natural sugars and can raise your blood sugar. Try not to eat more than three or four in a day. If possible, prepare a mix of the juices of a two-inch piece each of long green squash, bitter gourd and tomato and drink it without straining. Increase fiber content in your food. This will mean sticking to more of vegetables than meat. Include oatmeal and bran in your diet plan. Cut egg yolks, stick to only egg whites.
