Treatment for spurs

Do not walk barefoot if you show signs of having spurs on your heel. By walking without footwear the ligament at the bottom of the foot stretches out even farther and continuous walking will lead to unstable walk. Shoes with enhanced heels will help the foot to move forward and reduce the pressure off the heel.

Give yourself a good foot massage by rubbing the aching area with your thumb to generate more pressure in the heel region. The massage will help soothe the heel. However if the spur produces pain, use an ice pack wrapped in a thick soft cloth.

Keep it on the affected area for 5 - 10 minutes and remove it off for the same amount of time. Keep repeating this procedure till the pain passes off.

In the absence of pain, use a heating pad to allow blood circulation in the region and also to reduce the tenderness. The heating pad should be applied to the area for 20 minutes twice in day. Indulge in foot stretches. The best way to do it is to place a thick towel on the ball of your foot. Level your leg and in doing pull the top of your foot towards your body. Hold it in the position for around 10 - 12 seconds. Begin this exercise as two sets twice a day and gradually move on to three sets thrice daily.
