Alternative therapy for fungus and ingrown toenails
  • Clean your toes with an antibacterial lotion and then soak them in warm water. After the nails soften, you can try and cut them with a sterilized cutter but stop immediately if there is pain or if the nail goes deep inside.
  • If you have a recurring problem of ingrown toenail, do not grow your nails too long.

Keep them short and straight. While cutting them avoid curving or shaping them too much.
  • Place some cotton under the toenails so that eventually they grow over the edge of the skin.

  • Rub your toenail with either only tea tree oil or a mixture of olive oil and undiluted tea tree oil for at least 2 or 3 times a day.
  • Soak your toes in Listerine mouthwash. It acts as an antiseptic and cures the fungus.
  • Mix an equal amount of apple cider vinegar and warm water. Soak your feet in it before sleeping at night.
  • Dab lavender oil on the toe 2 or 3 times a day. It fights infection and prevents skin irritation.
  • Do not wear tight shoes or high heels as it might result in pain. Wear comfortable and protective footwear.
  • Have over-the-counter pain relievers like Tylenol or ibuprofen to get relief from pain.
