Although a sty has a bad appearance and it pains, it is usually harmless. It is basically a result of clogging of the oil glands around the eyelashes or a bacterial infection. Try the following home remedies to get rid of the sty -
- Warm water compresses done with the help of a clean washed cotton cloth kept on the eye for few minutes, will help the sty to break open and drain on its own.
Repeat 4-5 times a day. - Similarly guava leaves also when warmed and placed on a warm damp cloth, and then used as a compress will help to reduce the swelling, redness and pain.
- The tannic acid in the tea will help to decrease the size of the sty.
Wet a tea bag in warm water and place it on the sty. Let it stay for a few minutes. Let the sty heal on its own, never try to pop or squeeze a sty; it will be painful and may make the infection worse. Avoid wearing any eye makeup or contact lenses. If an eye sty is still troubling you, consult a specialist (ophthalmologist).
