Cold compresses are beneficial for toothache as they help to numb the blood vessels and decrease pain. Wrap ice in a towel or a plastic bag and apply on the cheek where pain exists. Never apply ice directly on the skin as it can cause ice burn.
Besides cold compresses you can also dab clove oil in a cotton ball and press it on the tooth which causes pain with the help of the opposite jaw. Clove has antiseptic properties and will help to relieve the pain. Avoid using warm compresses, if your tooth ache is caused due to some infection, warm compresses may worsen the infection further.
