A pregnancy consists of three trimesters, each 3 months in duration. Each trimester is unique in its own way and has different physical and emotional experiences attached to it. The first trimester is the first 13 weeks of the pregnancy.
During this period you may experience nausea otherwise commonly referred to as morning sickness, even though it is not limited to only the morning. In addition to this there will be a feeling of being constantly tired, and this could be accompanied with spells of dizziness as well. As the pregnancy gradually progresses week by week, you will begin to notice a tenderness in the breasts and at times a swelling too. The need to urinate frequently, fatigue, giddiness, dizziness, vomiting and nausea are all normal during the first trimester.
Although most of the weight gain happens during the last two trimesters, your abdomen may start distending a bit. But this will not be so noticeable, that it will require you to change the size of your clothing. The first trimester is the best time to start a healthy and nutritious dietary regime as well an exercise routine, that you can carry out through out the pregnancy. The second trimester is the period which is important for both your baby as well as for you. This is the stage when the baby starts to grow rapidly. Nausea and fatigue that you experienced in the first trimester will reduce substantially and you will now feel extremely energetic. This periods leads to what is called as nesting, the phase when you start preparing for the baby. This actually is just an effect of changes in hormonal levels. This is the period when all your cravings will reach their peak. At the end of this trimester the baby has developed a steady heart beat and minute body hair.
The third trimester is the final and last stage of the pregnancy. The baby is well developed during this period, and is gaining weight and size in-order to be healthy and strong. As the baby begins to run out of space, movement tends to be felt a lot in this stage. Additional weight will be experienced on your bladder and pelvis and legs too. This is because the baby is growing in size. You may also experience a lot of back pain and there could be a lot of discomfort. During this phase you will need to take a lot of rest and should not exert yourself.

You can count from the days when you fell you have last conceived that is approximately 15 days after the first day of your last period. This is a good way to determine how far you have reached till now. Other method includes sonography where a specialist would let you know the exact week for which you are pregnant.
