Hair can lose the natural color as one’s age advances. It can start turning grey. However, premature graying can be quite distressing and can cause even the younger people to begin to look aged.
The hair is considered just an appendage to one’s body. Hair comprises of the similar cells as those found on the extreme outer layer of one’s skin. Sebaceous glands located on a person’s scalp release sebum which is an oily substance. This is the gland that helps in providing nutrition and luster to one’s hair. It also provides the color to one’s hair. This nourishment needs to come to the hair through one’s bloodstream and cannot come to the hair through any other external means.
When a person’s hair begins to lose its luster and starts to turn grey, one needs to immediately take a look at the everyday diet that they consume. If the diet is lacking or faulty in any way then it can be a cause of premature graying in some people. Mental worries or stress can also be a big contributor to the graying of one’s hair. Some of the required vitamins include Vitamin B. One even needs to consume a diet that is rich in copper, iron and iodine. These are requirements for one’s daily diet and can be big contributors to one’s hair graying faster. If one is under extraordinary stress or is worrying too much, then this can also be a big cause of one’s hair going gray. When one is stressed it causes interference in the supply of all the essential vitamins to one’s hair. This is required to keep the hair healthy and nourished. Some other reasons for graying hair also include the scalp being unclean due to poor or infrequent cleaning or washing. One would require to wash their hair with cool water and use a good shampoo to help in cleaning out the scalp of all the dust and dirt that gets in. This will also help in getting rid of lice and sweat that collects in the hair. Heredity is another factor in the graying of one’s hair. To help in slowing down or preventing the graying of hair one should firstly eat a well balanced meal. This should contain a good balance of vitamins and nutrients. One should eat plenty of curry leaves as this has been found beneficial in controlling the graying of hair. One should also eat plenty of the ribbed gourds as this has beneficial properties too.

Yes gray hair makes you look older before your time.
With the advancement of age, our hair loses its natural color and turn grey, but premature graying could be due to an illness and can make a young individual look older. When our bodies are functioning properly, the hair follicles cells called melanocytes generate pigments - one of the main one being melanin. When these pigments are not generated or melanocytes stops producing them, a transparent hair is sprouted, which looks a ugly gray due the color of the dead cells that strand comprises of.
One of the most common reasons for grey hair is heredity. Another reason is a faulty diet or lack of vitamins in our daily diet including B vitamins, copper, iron, and iodine. Mental worries, pollution, smoking, illness and so on are factors that contribute to graying of hair.
Tips to prevent gray hair:
- The best way to prevent grey hair is to consume a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables. Avoid foods such as white flour, soft drinks and refined sugar and products made by it.
- Looking after your skin and scalp will decrease your chances of developing grey hair.
Henna application is a better choice to camouflage your grey hair rather than the expensive and, somewhat harmful hair dyes.
