Can You Get Chicken Pox Second Time?

Chicken pox is a health condition characterized by red, itchy bumps and caused by a virus infection. These bumps further turn crusty. Normally, you get chickenpox only once because the virus that causes this disease elicits an influential immune reaction that protects against symptomatic reinfection. This immune reaction further reduces the chances of having the infection again.

However, in some cases, this is possible because if the person is suffering from severe immune disease. Any kind of immune disease will weaken the immune system and will consequently increase the chances of viral infection. But, the second time when you see red bumps or vesicular rashes on your palms, it is not exactly chicken pox, but Shingles.

The varicella-zoster virus causes chickenpox that further gets reactivated and results in the occurrence of shingles (zoster). Shingles are more common in adults and very rare in children.

You can definitely consult a doctor for confirming your health condition. These rashes can also due to some other health disease. In any case, if it is chicken pox, you can have the following home remedies:

  • Make a mixture of white vinegar, baking soda and alpha keri body oil. Pour this mixture in you bath water and take bath after 15-20 minutes.
  • Cut and file your nails so that you can stay away from scratching the bumps or rashes.
  • Try colloidal baths such as oatmeal bath for reliving itchiness as oatmeal is soothing and has anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Limited your exposure because it is a highly contagious disease.
