Gastroenteritis may not prove harmful is appropriate care is taken to prevent it. Follow these preventive measures to cure gastroenteritis -
- Rest. It is very important to clear all your major symptoms of gastroenteritis.
- Preferably eat mild, bland food for few days and avoid spicy foods with all spices and condiments, oily or fried foods, red pepper, meat, pickles, sour foods, strong tea and coffee. Also avoid too sweet preparations like heavy cakes, pastries, sweets and aerated drinks.
- Water should be avoided with meals as it tends to dilute the digestive enzymes and delays digestion, however at least 8-10 glasses of water should be consumed in a day to prevent dehydration. You can also include plenty of clear fluids, electrolyte water, or sports beverages to compensate for the water lost in diarrhea or vomiting.
- Prepare food with maximum cleanliness and hygiene. Avoid half cooked or uncooked food especially in case of sea food.
- Avoid smoking, drinking alcohol and tobacco completely.
- Avoid taking any kind of stress, mental or physical as far as possible as this would worsen your condition.
