Cure for Anal Fissures

Any natural remedies for anal fissure?
( 8 Sep 2011)

Anal fissures are cuts or tears in the anal area that can be caused by diarrhea, constipation, indigestion and even pregnancy. You may be suffering from an anal fissure if you experience a sharp pain or burning sensation when you have a bowel movement. The fissure could bleed or have a discharge as well.

Once the problem has been diagnosed as an anal fissure, there are a number of treatments that could be prescribed. These include:
  • Using a stool softener to help lessen the discomfort when you have a bowel movement. Natural stool softeners such as papaya can also help.
  • A complete colon cleansing treatment may also help reduce the stress on the muscles around the anus. A warm water enema can also do the trick.
  • Your diet should contain fibrous foods. This keeps your bowel movements regular and prevents constipation and straining.
  • Avoid eating fried and oily food and snacks such as chips, nuts, tortilla chips and so on.
  • Apply a compress using aloe vera gel or cold tea bags to the affected area. This can help reduce pain and heal the fissure.
  • Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly or wheat germ oil around the anus to make bowel movements easier. This also protects the cut or tears from further damage.
  • Have a Sitz bath. Immerse your anal area in a tub of warm water and soak the area for some time. Repeat often during the day for quick relief.
  • Fasting on a juice only diet for five days can improve the condition considerable. Drink freshly squeezed carrot, pineapple or orange juice every two hours for a complete detox.
  • Drink a lot of water to encourage natural bowel movements and prevent dehydration.

Most of the time, anal fissures heal by themselves even if left alone. However, if the pain is too much, try some of the above remedies to speed up the healing process.
