Atopic dermatitis is a form of eczema that is characterized by inflammation, flaking of the skin, redness and itchiness. It is also referred to as infantile eczema as it normally sets in before a child turns five. It is a very sensitive form of eczema wherein irritants such as environmental allergens and food can trigger a bout of the above mentioned symptoms.

The condition becomes worse in the case of dry skin, perspiration and low humidity. A bacterial infection could also aggravate the condition.

Remedies for atopic dermatitis:
  • The first and foremost remedy for atopic dermatitis is keeping your little girl away from the source or irritant that causes the reaction. For this purpose, it is essential to watch out for irritants and note down events that lead up to a breakout. Prevention is the best remedy for this condition since there is no known cure for the same.
  • Since sand and dust tend to aggravate the condition, keeping your daughter away from these irritants is essential.
  • You should also keep your little girl away from direct sunlight and thus prevent the occasions of excessive perspiration.
  • Hot baths and showers should be avoided as they tend to steal the skin of valuable natural moisture.
  • Use skin care products that are particularly recommended for such conditions.
  • Highly perfumed products should also be avoided.
  • The use of harsh detergents and fabric conditioners should be avoided as they tend to increase skin irritation.
  • Some children could be allergic to eggs, peanuts, corn syrup, shellfish and fish. If this is the case, do not let your daughter consume these foods. Foods with added preservatives and artificial color should also be kept at bay as they could worsen the condition.
  • Ensuring that the environment is free of cigarette smoke and animal fur would also prove to be beneficial.
